"I'm adjusting really well," she tells the Dish exclusively. "I'm definitely getting used to it. The first week, I was completely in love and she would lay on my chest all day long. Now, Kensi is a little more active and I love interacting with her, watching her smile and giggle and laugh."
Over the course of Season 1 of Southern Charm, fans have grown to know Kathryn as a free-spirited 21-year-old. But ever since her daughter entered the world (she was born March 24 in West Palm Beach, Fla.), Kathryn, now 22, is ready to say goodbye to all that.
"I haven't missed my old lifestyle one bit," she says. "I'm really enjoying being settled in and hanging out with her. She's the only thing that matters to me now. Anyone that has had children or has been through an experience like this, it really changes you."
The baby's birth has had a big impact on dad, too. Kathryn says Thomas is a natural when it comes to soothing his child during hot-tempered moments. "He's really good at calming her down," she says. "I don't know if it's his deep resonant voice or what, but the minute he starts talking, she quiets down."
Thomas is also at his girlfriend's beck-and-call when she needs it—even as he gets set to run for office again. "He takes initiative," Kathryn says. One key role: he is always on-hand to brew a cup of coffee when Kathryn is up early with feedings, though the sleep-deprived mother jokes, "I never have time to drink it."
Though Kathryn may be lacking in sleep—"My pattern is really off"—she's got an abundance of support from her family, particularly her mom and dad, who are first-time grandparents. "They are so in love with her," she says. "My dad just retired so he's always ready to come down and visit. And my mom messaged me today and she's like 'I have a long weekend! Let me come visit!' They're totally overjoyed."
Kathryn and Thomas may be unmarried parents, but that's not to say they haven't discussed tying the knot. "Anything is possible," Kathryn says, "but right now there are no set plans."
Instead, they're perfectly content to get as much quality time with their baby joy as possible. "We want to make it work," she says. "We work as a team and we want to make sure that Kensington has everything she needs. She comes first. We come second."
Tune in to the Southern Charm finale on Monday at 10/9c.
